Top 5 ASX ETFs for Beginner Investors

Team Veye   July 28, 2026

ETFs provide broad market exposure through one trade and the following five ASX ETFs cover Australian stocks along with other developed global markets at relatively low costs.

Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF (ASX: VAS)

Vanguard Australian Shares Index ETF (ASX: VAS) is one of the top ASX ETFs for beginner investors because it will give broad exposure to Australian shares through the ASX 300 Index.

The fund has 308 holdings across Australian companies and listed property trusts with BHP Group along with Commonwealth Bank and Westpac among its largest positions.

VAS has a management fee of only 0.07% per annum which makes it one of the best ways to invest across the Australian market.

VAS is a good option for beginners because it has a combination of low fees with broad diversification and exposure to many of Australia's largest businesses.

Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF (ASX: VGS)

Vanguard MSCI Index International Shares ETF (ASX: VGS) is one of the best ASX ETFs for beginner investors because it will offer broad exposure to developed markets outside Australia.

The ETF has 1,247 companies across the United States as well as Japan and other developed markets.

Its biggest holdings include some of the world's largest companies such as Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon.
The fund has a management fee of 0.18% per year and pays quarterly distributions which gives investors a low-cost way to access global growth.

It also is a good core holding because it reduces reliance on the Australian market although its unhedged strategy means returns will also change with movements in foreign currencies.

Betashares Global Royalties ETF (ASX: ROYL)

Betashares Global Royalties ETF (ASX: ROYL) is a unique ASX ETF because it will give investors exposure to global companies that earn revenue from royalties and intellectual property.

The ETF has 47 holdings across industries such as mining, energy, semiconductors, music, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

Its largest investments are high return on capital businesses like ARM Holdings and Universal Music Group.

ROYL has a management fee of 0.69% per year while its 12-month distribution yield was 5.1% as of 30 June 2026.
The ETF can improve portfolio diversification and it may suit beginners better as one part of a diversified portfolio rather than as their only ETF.

iShares S&P 500 ETF (ASX: IVV)

iShares S&P 500 ETF (ASX: IVV) is one of the top ASX ETFs for beginner investors because it will provide exposure to 500 leading US companies through a single ASX trade.

The S&P 500 has some of the best businesses in the world backed by high returns on capital and a phenomenal track record of returns.

Its main underlying holdings include Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet which are among the world's largest and lucrative companies

The ETF has a management fee of just 0.04% and pays quarterly distributions which makes it really desirable from a cost perspective.

Vanguard Diversified High Growth Index ETF (ASX: VDHG)

Vanguard Diversified High Growth Index ETF (ASX: VDHG) is one of the best ASX ETFs for beginner investors who want access to businesses which are on a promising growth trajectory and can create massive shareholder value.
The ETF follows a high-growth strategy with a target allocation of 90% growth assets and 10% income assets.

It invests in seven underlying Vanguard index funds which provide exposure to Australian shares along with emerging markets and bonds.

The fund charges a management fee of 0.27% per year and has achieved an annualised total return of 9.10% over the past five years which is very impressive.
