Trump Turbulence Hits the Markets
Team Veye | 03-Apr-2025
U.S. stock indexes witnessed a choppy session before closing higher on Wednesday. But President Trump’s later announcement of sweeping new tariffs sent the markets in a turmoil.
Trump’s declaring minimum 10% tariffs on all imported goods led to U.S. stock index futures plunging in the evening. Before he began speaking, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had risen 235.36 points, or 0.56%, to close at 42,225.32, with S&P 500 surging 37.81 points, or 0.67%, to 5,670.88. Nasdaq Composite gained 151.15 points, or 0.87%, to 17,601.05.
Shocking its trade partners alike, Australia and New Zealand were imposed baseline reciprocal tariff at 10% each.
China with 34%, Vietnam with 46% and Taiwan with 32% were hit the hardest with steep tariffs..
