Temple & Webster (ASX: TPW) has faced mounting pressure as weaker consumer spending weighs on Australia’s online furniture and homewares market. Investors are now looking for evidence that the business can stabilise and rebuild growth.

The company’s FY26 results offered some positives, but its latest trading update highlighted why a recovery remains uncertain.

What’s Supporting the Recovery Case?

  • Record revenue: Temple & Webster generated A$664.6 million in FY26 revenue, up 10.6% year on year.

  • Improving underlying earnings: Underlying EBITDA, excluding foreign exchange impacts, rose 28% to A$25.9 million.

  • Stronger customer engagement: Active customers increased 5% to approximately 1.3 million, while repeat customers accounted for 62% of orders.

  • Growth beyond furniture: Home improvement revenue climbed 39% to A$59 million, while its trade and commercial business grew 16% to A$56 million.

These figures suggest the business retains growth opportunities despite a difficult consumer environment.

The Key Concern: Weak Trading

The recovery case faces a significant hurdle. Temple & Webster reported that revenue was down 13% year on year in the early weeks of FY27, although it was comparing against a strong prior-year period.

Management is targeting FY27 EBITDA of A$33 million to A$40 million. Achieving that range will depend on trading conditions, margins and the company’s ability to manage costs.

A return to stronger revenue growth is not yet assured.

What Should Investors Watch?

The next important signals include:

  • Whether sales decline slows or reverses.

  • Whether stronger margins translate into sustainable earnings growth.

  • Whether home improvement and trade sales can offset weakness in discretionary spending.

The Bottom Line

Temple & Webster has several encouraging business indicators, including record annual revenue and stronger underlying earnings. However, weaker recent trading means it is too early to conclude that the worst is over.

For ASX, evidence of stabilising sales and improving profitability could matter more than a short-term share price rebound. This is a business outlook assessment, not a buy or sell recommendation.
