BOQ, WBC & NAB remain key players in Australia’s banking sector, supported by established franchises and diversified lending portfolios. Their recent report reflects their performance, growth trends, financial strength and key factors influencing their future prospects.

Bank of Queensland Limited (ASX: BOQ)

On 10 August 2026, announced a capital return to shareholders of approximately $295 million through the medium of fully franked special dividend  of 15cps and an on-market buy-back of ordinary shares of upto $196 million, expected to be commenced after paying dividend. This is followed by a successful completion of previously announced whole-of-loan sale of BOQ’s equipment finance portfolio.

The company has a market capitalization of approximately $4.25 billion with an attractive fully franked dividend yield of 6.22%. It also reported strong LCR & NSFR ratios of 138.38% and 125.27%, reflecting strong financial position of the company.

Bank of Queensland has also reported a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 11.79%, as of 31 May, with the capital returns expecting to lower it to 11.01%. The management’s target range for it is 10.25-10.75%.

The company has also completed the migration of its 350,000 ME customers from legacy core banking platform to BOQ’s modern digital banking platform, marking a significant milestone.

BOQ has recognised an impairment charge of $47 million for 2H26 and is on track to meet its guidance of sub-inflation expense growth for FY26. These recent developments reflects strong positioning of the company in banking sector.

Westpac Banking Corporation (ASX: WBC)

As on 10 August 2026, published its third quarter data, reflecting strong performance with $1.8 billion unaudited statutory net profit up 3% on 1H26 average. The company’s CET1 capital ratio of 12.1% remained above the company’s target ratio of 11.25% in normal operating conditions.

The company has a market capitalisation of $115.94 billion with a stable fully franked dividend yield of 4.54%. The company’s financial position remains strong with its NSFR ratio of 111% and LCR ratio of 134%, both well above the minimum requirements.

WBC expects the housing credit growth to moderate a bit from 6.8% in FY26 to 4.7% in FY27. The Spend&Save offer was expanded to customers aged up to 40 and the balance cap increased from $30,000 to $150,000. Together with the launch of Book a Banker earlier this year, these and other initiatives are making it easier for customers to begin their home ownership journey. This has also contributed to a higher proportion of new lending through the proprietary channel.

On transformation, WBC is focusing on simplifying its operating environment, improve customer experiences and increase productivity, while UNITE's progress remains on track. The company has also commenced the migration of Commercial Banking customers and completed the migration of all Westpac Invoice Finance facilities to the new platform, strengthening its transformation journey.

National Australia Bank Limited (ASX: NAB)

On 17 August 2026, published its third quarter results, reporting an unaudited statutory net profit of $1.81 billion, which is up 32% compared to 1H26 quarterly average. Cash earnings also increased by 2% to $1.83 billion with an increased CET1 capital ratio of 11.93%.

The company has a market capitalisation of $119.36 billion with a fully franked dividend yield of 4.43%. Its financial position remains strong with NSFR ratio of 115% and LCR ratio of 134%, both well-above its regulatory requirements.

The company made further progress during the quarter with Australian lending business rising 2% including 4% growth in Business & Private Banking. Deposit balances increased by 2%, supported by 3% growth in B&PB transaction accounts. However, the home lending market softened in Australia, with a decline in applications by 15% compared to second quarter.

With its target of productivity savings of $450 million, the company remains well-positioned as one of the major banks in the Australian ecosystem.
