Mesoblast’s Big Commercial Breakthrough: What Investors Should Know
Mesoblast’s FY26 results highlight a significant shift toward commercial growth, supported by strong RYONCIL sales. The company’s expanding Phase 3 pipeline could provide further growth opportunities as key clinical and regulatory milestones approach.
Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB)
On 27 August 2026, published its June ending FY26 results which reflects a strong performance as it continued to transition into a commercial company which is led by the launch of RYONCIL in U.S. Revenue for the year increased to US$120.3 million from just US$17.2 million in the previous year due to RYONCIL which contributed US$115.2 million in net product sales. Gross profit excluding amortization reached US$110 million, which reflects strong commercial economics of the product. Despite such a great gross profit margin, the company remained loss-making, reporting a net loss of US$57.5 million, mainly due to the heavy R&D costs for the development of its various products.
Mesoblast’s net operating cash outflow improved to US$43.8 million from around US$50 million in the previous year, while cash stood at US$103 million at June 30, 2026. The company also replaced higher-cost debt with a new US$125 million credit facility. R&D investment increased significantly by US$39.7 million during the year which supported product development, Phase 3 trials and regulatory activities. Mesoblast Limited currently has a market capitalization of approximately $3.1 billion.
RYONCIL remains the key near-term growth driver, with Mesoblast progressing opportunities to expand its use into adult steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (SR-aGvHD). A registration trial is underway in 180 Grade III/IV adult patients, comparing ruxolitinib alone with ruxolitinib plus RYONCIL, with an interim analysis expected in the fourth quarter of CY27. Meanwhile, rexlemestrocel-L continues to advance in chronic low back pain and chronic heart failure. The pivotal Phase 3 low back pain trial has completed patient treatment, while REVASCOR has demonstrated improvements in right-heart function, mortality and major gastrointestinal bleeding in Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) patients, supporting further regulatory development. These programs offer potential access to substantially larger addressable markets if successfully approved.
Looking ahead, Mesoblast plans to expand RYONCIL’s pediatric market penetration while pursuing adult label extensions and additional pediatric indications such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The company is expecting to complete the chronic low back pain program by mid-2027 for rexlemestrocel-L and then file for FDA approval. It expects the potential approval to be granted for the same in 2028. MSB also plans to complete a BLA filing for REVASCOR in end-stage heart failure patients with LVADs. Overall, the near-term focus is on commercial execution, regulatory progress and advancing its late-stage pipeline toward potential approvals. Execution against these milestones will be central to the company’s value creation ahead.
