SpaceX has completed one of the most successful IPOs in history and here is a closer look at the company’s key business segments and long-term outlook.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: SPCX)

has become one of the most followed public companies in the world after its super successful initial public offering. Investor demand for the stock was strong from the very start as the share price finished its first day of trading at US$160.95 which was 19.22% above the IPO price of US$135 per share.

Demand far exceeded the number of shares available as the IPO was more than four times oversubscribed while retail investors received approximately 20% of the float which is a large allocation for a listing of this scale. The stock on 15 June 2026 closed at US$192.50 which gave the company a market capitalisation of approximately $2.52 trillion.

Key Business Segments

SpaceX has three connected business segments that management refers to as the infrastructure of the future: Space, Connectivity and AI.Β
The space segment is the core of the business. It includes launch vehicles, spacecraft manufacturing, reusable rocket systems and launch infrastructure. Data from the company’s roadshow presentation shows that SpaceX has completed approximately 650 launches. It has safely transported 78 crew members since 2020. The company has also delivered more than 80% of the global mass sent into orbit since 2023.

Starlink is the foundation of the connectivity segment. It is now the world's largest low Earth orbit broadband satellite network. SpaceX reported more than 9,600 Starlink satellites in orbit which serve approximately 10.3 million subscribers across 164 countries and territories. This network has become a significant source of recurring revenue for the company. It has also expanded internet access in many regions that previously lacked reliable telecommunications infrastructure.
Artificial intelligence is the newest business segment. Management views it as a natural extension of the company's expertise in large-scale infrastructure and computing. SpaceX has built gigawatt-scale compute infrastructure along with frontier AI models and real-time information platforms. The company reported approximately 550 million monthly active users across Grok and X. These platforms are supported by around one gigawatt of compute capacity and hundreds of millions of daily user interactions.

Few listed technology companies have growth opportunities as broad as those available to SpaceX. Demand for launch services is poised to increase from governments, defence agencies, commercial satellite operators and scientific organisations. Reusable rocket technology has reduced the cost of access to space and as a result, entirely new markets are emerging that were previously not economically viable.

Artificial intelligence could eventually become the company's largest growth opportunity. SpaceX plans to use proceeds from the IPO to expand its AI compute infrastructure. It intends to continue major investment in advanced AI capabilities. Management has stated that future spending will include larger compute clusters and enhanced infrastructure while potential orbital AI computing platforms are also under consideration.Β

Industry Impact

Very few companies have transformed industries on the scale achieved by SpaceX. The company became the first private enterprise to launch a liquid-fuel rocket into orbit. It was also the first to dock a spacecraft with the International Space Station. Other milestones include landing and reusing orbital-class boosters and transporting astronauts into orbit. These achievements fundamentally changed the economics of spaceflight and they also significantly reduced barriers for commercial space activities.

Starlink has reshaped the satellite broadband industry through global low-latency internet services. The network now serves as an important communications platform for consumers, businesses, governments and emergency services. SpaceX is establishing a strong position within the AI sector through large-scale computing infrastructure and real-time data platforms. Management believes that the combination of space, connectivity and AI will create entirely new trillion-dollar markets over the coming decades.

Future Outlook

SpaceX is well positioned for further growth across all three business segments. Plans include the deployment of additional Starlink satellites and increasing launch frequency. The company also has an aim to expand AI computing capacity while continuing development of Starship and other next-generation technologies. Management has consistently highlighted its long-term goal of making humanity multiplanetary. The company will address major challenges on Earth through connectivity and AI innovation.

SpaceX has entered the next stage of its journey as a public company from a position of significant strength. Execution risks still exist but the combination of vertical integration and exposure to multiple high-growth industries has made SpaceX one of the most distinctive investment opportunities in global markets today although investors should also carefully consider the company’s current valuation and the significant growth expectations already reflected in its share price.
