Copper prices surged more than 6% on Thursday and reached US$6.30 per pound supported by high industrial demand which is driven by the global shift towards renewable energy and the rapid build-out of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Due to this, the following ASX copper stocks also soared on Thursday.

Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR)

Sandfire Resources Limited (ASX: SFR) rose 5.24% on Thursday which reinforced its position as the ASX 200’s largest pure copper play with a current market capitalisation of $9.84 billion.

The company delivered group copper equivalent production of 72.1 kilotonnes in the first half of FY26.
At the MATSA operations in Spain, higher grade polymetallic ore feed and improved recoveries supported copper equivalent production of 46.4 kilotonnes in H1 FY26 which highlights solid operational execution and cost discipline.

Sandfire generated unaudited group sales revenue of $344 million in the December 2025 quarter and reported underlying operations EBITDA of $187 million along with a net cash position of $13 million.

The company also continued to invest in growth by allocating capital to near mine and regional exploration across the Iberian Pyrite Belt, Kalahari Copper Belt and the Kalkaroo copper gold project in South Australia.

BHP Group Limited (ASX: BHP)

BHP Group Limited (ASX: BHP) rose 1.8% on Thursday and it is the world’s largest copper producer with a current market capitalisation of $261.61 billion.

In its half year ended 31 December 2025, BHP reported total copper production of 984 kilotonnes which was flat year-on-year while average realised copper prices rose 32% to US$5.28 per pound.

At Escondida, the world’s largest copper mine, BHP achieved record throughput and improved recoveries which led to an increase in full year production guidance and reinforced the asset’s role as the backbone of its copper earnings.

The company upgraded its FY26 group copper production guidance to a range of 1.9 to 2.0 million tonnes which is supported by record concentrator throughput at Escondida and stronger delivery at Antamina.

BHP aims to lift attributable copper production towards two million tonnes per annum in the 2030s.

Capstone Copper Corp. (ASX: CSC)

Capstone Copper Corp. (ASX: CSC) surged 4.53% on Thursday and the company has operations across Chile, the United States and Mexico while current market capitalisation is $16.85 billion.

Fourth quarter performance was particularly strong with record quarterly production of 58,273 tonnes driven by ramp-ups at Mantoverde and Mantos Blancos.

At Mantoverde in Chile, copper output reached 95,115 tonnes in 2025 which marks a 65% year-on-year increase and Capstone is focused on disciplined execution through 2026 while maintaining reliable operations during ongoing labour negotiations at Mantoverde.
