These ASX energy and financial stocks are trading around their 52-week highs, supported by strong business updates, improving earnings, expansion plans and strong operating performance, making them companies that investors are watching closely.

Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD)

Ampol Limited (ASX: ALD), on 1 July 2026, completed the acquisition of EG Australia, following completion on 30 June 2026. The deal adds about 480 company operated sites, mainly on Australia’s east coast, selling around 2.0 billion litres of fuel each year. It also creates a workforce of around 4,200 people and capitalizes on the existing fuel supply relationship and brand license arrangement between both companies.

The acquisition supports the expansion of Ampol Foodary, the U-GO format and the Woolworths Everyday Rewards program. The business expects $65-80 million in synergies by the end of June 2028 through U-GO site conversions, supply chain improvements, and head office efficiencies. It also expects stronger earnings and free cash flow after integration.

In the 1Q 2026 Trading Update, Ampol reported an LRM of US$25.45 per barrel, refinery production of 1,434 million litres, and Australian fuel sales excluding net-sell increased 4.7%. Fuel and crude supplies were secured into May and July 2026 respectively.

AMP Limited (ASX: AMP)

AMP Limited (ASX: AMP), on 16 July 2026, announced underlying NPAT for 1H 2026 is expected to be between $170 million and $180 million. The result is supported by a stronger contribution from its China partnerships of about $56 million, around $5 million higher group investment income, a similar benefit from Platforms, about $13 million in carried interest, and a $12 million negative revaluation in Other Partnerships.

AMP also informed part of the carried interest from a legacy fund had been received after required conditions were met. More carried interest may be earned from the sale of the remaining 49% interest but this depends on future conditions. Results for 1H 2026 will be released on 6 August 2026.

Platforms net cash flows were up by 45%, totaling $1.1 billion and Superannuation and Investments net cash flows improved to $80 million in 1Q 2026. AMP also reported higher AMP Bank GO deposits, total wealth assets of $155.9 billion and steady bank loans of $24.1 billion.

Viva Energy Group Limited (ASX: VEA)

Viva Energy Group Limited (ASX: VEA), on 28 July 2026, shared its 1H26 trading update and unaudited financial results. Group EBITDA (RC) is expected to be about $770-780 million compared with $305 million in 1H25. Net debt reduced to about $1.7 billion from $2.1 billion at the end of 2025. The result benefited from stronger refining margins, higher retail fuel sales, growth in commercial activities, and good cash generation despite global market disruption.

In Energy & Infrastructure, the Geelong Refinery recorded a GRM of US$21.1 per barrel on crude intake of 19.7 million barrels. A fire at the Alkylation unit in April affected production but operations recovered to over 90% of normal capacity during June. E&I EBITDA (RC) is expected to be about $353M.

Commercial & Industrial sales volumes increased 1% and Convenience & Mobility fuel sales rose 2.4%. The convenience sales excluding tobacco grew 1.3%. C&I EBITDA (RC) is expected at about $305 million and C&M EBITDA (RC) at about $138M.
