These are the leading gold-based penny stocks listed on the ASX, supported by strong operational and exploration performance that could contribute to long-term value creation.

Turaco Gold Limited (ASX: TCG)

Turaco Gold Limited (ASX: TCG) is one of the top gold-based penny stocks listed on the ASX and is currently trading with a market capitalisation of $994.04 million.

On 16 September 2026, TCG announced further drilling results from the Afema Gold Project. The current Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) is based on 23,106 m of drilling to an average depth of just ~70 m. A further ~13,000 m of drilling across 113 holes has now been completed.

On 11 September 2026, Turaco Gold Limited announced its half-year accounts for the period ended June 2026. The company has completed the Afema Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS), which established a potential conventional open-pit gold operation producing approximately 200 koz of gold per year over the initial mine life of 10+ years.

The study supported a maiden Probable Ore Reserve of 1.91 Moz.

TCG has reported exploration and evaluation expenses of ~$15.7 million. Its cash balance stood at $51 million, while net assets declined to $85.9 million.

Pilbara Gold Limited (ASX: PGL)

Pilbara Gold Limited (ASX: PGL) is one of the leading gold-based penny stocks and is currently trading at a market capitalisation of $119.34 million.

PGL released its annual report for shareholders on 30 September 2026 for the period ended June 2026. The company increased the Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for Mt York by 50% to 61.7 Mt @ 1.05 g/t Au following 27,000 m of drilling in 2025 at a $13.40/oz discovery cost.

Drilling has also started at the Terra and Caliburn prospects of the Roe Hills Gold Project, WA.

Pilbara Gold has planned RC drilling over a 1.8 km mineralised corridor at Terra, covering the majority of 12,000 m. The company is also targeting Caliburn, which hosts 900 m of long bedrock mineralisation with historic results, including 22 m @ 1.55 g/t Au from 144 m (ROE147).

PGL raised $27 million in October 2025 to fund exploration and development at Mt York and Roe Hills.

In June 2026, the company reported a cash balance of $27.5 million, enabling drilling activities and studies towards completion of the PFS for Mt York.

Austral Gold Limited (ASX: AGD)

Austral Gold Limited (ASX: AGD) is one of the top-performing gold-based ASX penny stocks and is currently trading at a market capitalisation of $100.21 million.

On 28 September 2026, AGD announced its initial results from the infill drilling campaign at Los Nanos. The drilling included 23 RC holes for a total of 1,128 m completed at the Los Nanos sector, 2.5 km from the Guanaco processing plant.

The results include a broad interval of 95 m @ 1.10 g/t AuEq, with a higher-grade interval of 3 m @ 8.11 g/t AuEq. Other results include 20 m @ 3.12 g/t AuEq, 15 m @ 3.33 g/t AuEq and 26 m @ 1.82 g/t AuEq, with some intervals carrying substantial silver grades.

AGD announced its half-yearly results for the period ended June 2026 on 28 August 2026. Production nearly doubled to 11,648 GEO, while revenue reached US$66.6 million, representing growth of ~3x compared to HY25.

Gross profit reached US$33.3 million, with a margin of 50%. Net profit after tax reached US$15.5 million, with a margin of 23%.

Cash and cash equivalents increased to US$20.3 million, while total financial debt reduced to US$22 million.

The next phase of drilling is expected to start in Q4 2026, covering up to 8,000 metres.
