2 ASX Healthcare Stocks to Watch: Neuren and CLINUVEL Make Key Pipeline Advances
NEU and CUV latest statements illustrate further advancements within their respective pipeline projects and other areas of operations, as well as important details regarding regulations, sales and clinical trials.
Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: NEU)
on 29 June 2026, announced that the European Medicines Agencyβs Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use had recommended approval of DAYBU (trofinetide) in the European Union after a re-examination. The treatment is for neurobehavioral symptoms of Rett syndrome in adults and children aged five years and older. If approved, it would be the first treatment for this indication in the EU.
The recommendation now requires a decision from the European Commission. If marketing authorisation is granted and DAYBU is launched, Neuren will receive US$35 million after the first commercial sale in Europe. The agreement further features sales milestone payments worth up to US$170 million once sales levels per year are met, as well as tiered royalty fees at percentages varying from mid-teens to low-20s percentage of net sales.
On 5 August 2026, Neuren attained Q2 2026 DAYBUE net sales of US$125 million, a 30% increase from Q2 2025 and 24% increase from Q1 2026. Growth was almost entirely driven by higher volume with strong uptake of DAYBUE STIX. By quarter end, 40% of US patients were receiving STIX and around 45% of STIX demand came from new or returning patients. A Germany launch is expected in early Q4 2026.
NEU earned US$12.9 million in Q2 2026 royalties, improved 34% from Q2 2025 and 24% from Q1 2026. Full year 2026 DAYBUE sales guidance increased to US$480β510 million from US$460β490 million, while expected Neuren royalty income rose to US$53β56 million from US$50β54 million. The 2028 sales target remains US$700 million. Japan trial results are expected from September to November 2026 with submission planned for 2027.
CLINUVEL Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: CUV)
on 30 July 2026, provided a commercial update on the vitiligo market, covering narrowband UVB (NB-UVB) and Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors. NB-UVB remains the preferred first-line whole-body treatment for extensive vitiligo, but requires treatment two to three times weekly for 12β18 months. Studies reported clinically significant repigmentation in 45% of 176 patients, while other analyses found marked responses of 19% after six months and 36% after 12 months. Better results were linked with treatment lasting more than 18 months and higher cumulative radiation doses.
On 28 July 2026, CLINUVEL said topline results from its CUV105 vitiligo study are expected in December 2026. The trial includes 210 patients with darker skin types and compares SCENESSE with adjunct NB-UVB against NB-UVB alone over 20 weeks. The main measure is the percentage of patients achieving at least 50% total body repigmentation while another endpoint assesses at least 75% facial improvement.
CUV announced a strategic reorganisation effective 1 January 2027 on 23 July 2026. Its headquarters and key functions will move to the United State, while the global workforce will be reduced by approximately 10%β20%. Operational resources will focus exclusively on the U.S. pharmaceutical pipeline and commercial strategy, with the restructuring intended to provide access to deeper and more liquid U.S. capital markets.
